Senvelgo (velagliflozin) is the first once-daily oral liquid medication approved to improve glycemic control in cats with diabetes mellitus. Its active ingredient, velagliflozin, is an SGLT2 inhibitor that helps lower blood sugar by increasing the amount of glucose removed through the urine.
Who it's for
Otherwise healthy cats newly diagnosed with diabetes mellitus that have not previously been treated with insulin. Your veterinarian will determine whether Senvelgo is right for your cat.
How to use
- Give 1 mg/kg (0.45 mg/lb) of body weight once daily, at about the same time each day, regardless of blood glucose level — exactly as directed by your veterinarian.
- Administer directly into your cat's mouth, or onto a small amount of wet food. Do not mix it into a full meal.
- Senvelgo is used on its own; do not combine it with insulin.
Important safety information (prescription only)
- Senvelgo is available by prescription only and must be used under veterinary supervision.
- Do not use in cats currently or previously treated with insulin, or with insulin-dependent diabetes — this increases the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or euglycemic DKA, which can be fatal.
- Watch for signs of DKA — loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, or dehydration — and contact your veterinarian immediately if they occur.
- Share your cat's full medical history with your veterinarian before starting Senvelgo.
