What is Bravecto for dogs?
Bravecto (fluralaner) is a prescription chewable tablet that protects dogs against fleas and ticks for 12 weeks with a single dose — nearly three times longer than monthly preventives. One tasty chew kills fleas, prevents new infestations, and controls black-legged ticks, American dog ticks and brown dog ticks for 12 weeks (lone star ticks for 8 weeks).
How Bravecto works
Fluralaner is an isoxazoline that spreads through your dog's tissue fluids after the chew is absorbed. When fleas or ticks bite, they're exposed to the active ingredient and die before they can reproduce — breaking the flea life cycle in your home as well as on your dog.
Bravecto strengths and dosing
Bravecto chews come in five strengths matched to your dog's weight — 112.5 mg (4.4–9.9 lbs), 250 mg (9.9–22 lbs), 500 mg (22–44 lbs), 1000 mg (44–88 lbs) and 1400 mg (88–123 lbs). Give one chew with food, once every 12 weeks, as directed by your veterinarian. For puppies, Bravecto is labelled from 6 months of age.
Safety and side effects
The most common side effect is mild, short-lived digestive upset. As with all isoxazoline-class products, use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders — discuss your dog's history with your veterinarian. Bravecto is safe for breeding, pregnant and lactating dogs.
